Dead video card

Well, my video card decided yesterday it didn't want to see 2015. Fortunately I had the foresight back when I put this computer together to get a motherboard with basic built in video capability. I can't run the toolset on motherboard video (or do any other gaming, or even use the full resolution of my monitor), so the toolset will have to remain closed until the replacement card gets here sometime next week. I guess I'll be jotting down ideas in notepad and maybe working on conversations via the flamewind conversation editor until the new video card arrives.

  1. Hi, Kamal,

I posted this in the last Crimmor post of yours that I found, but it's a bit dated, so please forgive the off-topic post here;-)

I'm playing the latest release Of Crimmor, and enjoying it quite a bit. However, I've encountered a number of quest-stopping bugs that, when checking on the "Crimmor Fixed Bugs" page on your pathofevil wika page have been reported and supposedly fixed. The biggest one is the Shadowmaster not moving with my PC from Wheel Ward back to hideout in Docks Ward when I inform him that the Fell Talisman has been stolen and the appraiser killed. Is there any way to proceed with the main plot, at this point?

    Thanks,

    Dan (posting anonymously for convenience)

  2. Dan here again. I proceeded with the other conversation option with the Shadowmaster still at Wheel Ward and did the prison escape sequence, but have not been able to complete the collection quests as the guard on the wall won't respond to my PC. This seems to prevent any access to the Enclave quests, now. I think I'm stuck. I've completed all the side quests I could other than the bugged ones (like no door for the book collector in Wheel Ward), and the main plotlines are blocked, for now. Do you have any advice or help for how to proceed? Is it possible I don't actually have the latest version, perhaps? I definitely progressed passed many of the bugs recorded as fixed on the wiki site--it's primarily the ones mentioned above that are still problematic, at least for me. I'd be very grateful if you could suggest any possible workarounds, as this has been a fantastic, supremely well-crafted rogue/bard adventure so far...

    Regards,

Dan [available at "dantastic@mac"(dot)"com", but I'll be checking back here occasionally if you want to post a public reply]

    1. My PC had previously completed missions for Resker Orsi and he was on the Drover's Gate wall. One odd thing was when I turned in the quest to him for exposing and killing the fake Ilmater priest, no award or recognition was given, and from that point onward he never responded to conversation attempts, unlike all other guard interactions. Could that quest not quite resolving be a factor?

    2. I think I accidentally deleted my first post. Are you using a Mac, as your email address suggests?

I suspect you have an old version of the campaign. Unzip the following into your Crimmor campaign folder, it is all the module level dialogs and scripts. Since campaign level resources have higher priority than module level ones, these will override the dialogs and scripts in your game. This should fix all issues. You can let it override any existing files in the campaign folder.

    3. Thanks for the replacement files, Kamal. I put them in the Crimmor campaign folder, replacing the originals, but upon loading three different save points, observed the same problems as before. I am using a Mac...would that make any difference? I tried removing all items from my override folder (Kaedrin's stuff mostly) but this made no difference other than losing the Canith Lyricist bard prestige class levels I'd had from them. Are there any diagnostic things I can try from the console that might help figure out what is going on?

      Thanks,

      Dan

  4. During the escape, the Shadowmaster says you should speak with Sathur Rinif after escaping, have you spoken with Sathur Rinif at her home in Wheel Ward? I presume so since you are looking for Resker Orsil.

You will need to use the command line to set the journal sh_sathur3 to 1. This will enable a conversation line with Resker Orsil. The journal for this entry says :"If you don't know him, Harando understands. The last I heard he was watching the walls above Alandor Gate. Tell him to bring Zaafirah. I'll have tea and homemade ensaïmadas.":

If you haven't been given the quest Evercarpet by Sathur (she gives it at the same time as Resker Orsil, and you need to do both), set journal sh_sathur2 to state 1.

I asked about the Mac because another Mac user had reported problems, though with a different issue: http://forum.bioware.com/topic/163423-shadow-thief-crimmor/?p=15132096

  5. Yes, my PC has spoken with Sathur and retrieved the Evercarpet, prior to trying to talk with Resker Orsi. I already had the journal entry mentioned above. Only still no conversation with Resker Orsi. Is there a workaround to advance this plot point?

Ah yes, Karen:-) ! For 10 years, I've been playing the same NWN1 and 2 modules as her on the Vault and have several times encountered the same Mac-related problems she sometimes asks about. Sometimes I beat her to the problems;-) However, I haven't had any transition area problems here (I am using the latest Retina MacBook Pro--the only performance problems I've noticed are occasional lagging in the SW part of Wheel Ward).

    Dan

  6. Out of curiosity, what is the correct command and syntax for using the console to set journal entries? I couldn't find it listed at http://gameofthrones.net/resources/57-technical-documentation/495-nwn2-console-commands.html or in listing the commands available from the console itself. I found how to print local and global vars if that could be useful (sh_sathur2 and sh_sathur3 did have state 1).

    Dan

  7. I will make an overriding conversation tonight after work for you for resker orsil. He will say "Hello Dan...." so you know it's being used. The syntax is something like rs_journal... I forget exactly.

Unpack to your Crimmor campaign folder, and if that doesn't work to the override. On windows, the campaign folder has precedence over the module folder.

The player will now have a dialog option that begins with "I am Dan." and then continues as normal. I removed the conditional check for the dialog line, you should always be able to say it.

If this doesn't work, tell me specifically what Orsil's first line to you is when you speak to him, so I know exactly where to look.

    1. Thanks, Kamal...Alas, still no dialog options from Resker Orsil. That's been the problem all along--I click on him, he turns towards me and says "yes", but no dialog box opens and no conversation can occur. I suspect the last quest I turned in to him didn't finish completely, as no award or acknowledgement was made when I reported to him about having killed the fake priest of Illmater. The dialog box simply closed on me and he hasn't responded since.

I used the console to print out all the local variables to a text file. Would it be helpful to have this to look over, for any further troubleshooting?

      Regards,

      Dan

  9. Try putting this one in your campaign folder. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3879894/sh_drover_resker.DLG

I gave resker a fallthrough conversation line of "Hello Dan", there are no conditionals at all on it, so it should always play

  10. I really appreciate your efforts to help, Kamal!

I installed the file in the Crimmor campaign folder. However, the "Hello Dan" option (or any other conversation option with Resker Orsil) did not show up on any save game I had subsequent to turning in the Triadic Knight quest to him. To get the "Hello, Dan" conversation option, I had to go back to a save just after completing the Triadic Knight quest but before I turned it in to Resker Orsil on the wall. At that point, I had two conversation options, the "Hello Dan" one and the report on killing the fake priest of Illmater. Selecting the "Hello Dan" one did update the journal with the desired Sathur3 outcome but the dialog box once again closed on me (no "Leave" option) and Resker would not respond to further questions, such as allowing the report of the Triadic Knight outcome. If I selected the other convo option, first, the dialog box closes (no journal updates this time) and Resker is unresponsive again. Any ideas?

    Dan

Try this version. It includes all the Triadic Knights stuff and Sathur under the Hello Dan line.

  12. Some success! Once I remembered to remove the version I had put in the Override folder, I eventually saw the changes you made. I first have to click on Resker Orsil, leave the conversation without saying anything, select him again, and then I get "Hello Dan" and the Sathur invitation dialog option and the Triadic Knights dialog options. If I select the option to report that the priest and daughter attacked the Knights and myself, the dialog box closes immediately and no journal update occurs. However, I can now re-engage with Resker Orsil and use the other conversation options (showing the Holy Symbol) to end the quest with a journal entry. I'd like to get credit for having killed the priest and his summons, but the only journal entry I can obtain says I was content to merely report the false priest. However, I got experience, at least, and the quest closed. Yay!

With this earlier save, I have not yet reported to the Shadowmaster that the Fell Talisman has been stolen. It is probably still the case that the Shadowmaster won't follow me to the Docks from Wheel Ward, where he is waiting for me currently in the game. Can you help me around this obstacle, next?

I also have a later save, post-prison break, where I am trying to enter the Enclave and complete Sathur's quests. I think your fix will allow progress there, now, too, but I'd like to see what the Shadowmaster does back at the Docks--he seems to be angry at some guild members that were watching the appraiser, as I recall.

Any advice about what to try next, to experience as much of the game as possible?

    Thanks and Regards,

    Dan

  13. Run the following script, it's alsready in there so you just have to run it via console:
    sh_wheel_shadowmaster_umbral

That is the script that runs at the end of telling him the talisman has been stolen.
    It does the following:
SetScriptHidden(GetObjectByTag("sh_wheel_guildmaster"), 1); //hides the shadowmaster npc in wheel ward

SetGlobalInt("sh_wheel_guildmaster", 1); //sets an int used when entering the thieves guild to unhide the shadowmaster npc there, and start the conversation with him.

LoadNewModule("crimmor_docks", "wp_thieves_pc"); //sends you back to the guildhouse from Wheel Ward.

  14. With you indicating exactly the conversation choices you took with Resker Orsil regarding Father Ventloch, I was able to track down the bug in the conversation (bad conditional prevented Orsil's line). I've removed the conditional from the Hello Dan version of the conversation (and fixed it for any future patch), so you can take that conversation line about him attacking and see what Orsil has to say.

  15. Hi, Kamal, Well, it is getting closer to full success;-) While the conversation option with Resker Orsil about the priest attacking the Knights and myself now results in gold and experience, along with a subsequent followup conversation about Orsil pondering what to do about it, the journal entry is still the one about my not wanting to have gotten involved and merely reporting the fake priest. So close to fully fixed!

I spoke with the shadowmaster in wheel ward about the stolen Fell Talisman and he did not show up in the guildhouse in Docks Ward, although I was transported there (this was the same as before, as to be expected). Running the script you provided did the same thing--no shadowmaster appears and no conversation is possible. I wanted to run the command to SetGlobalInt(sh_wheel_guildmaster",1) at that point to see if he'd appear, but I can't figure out how to do this from the console. Can this be done from the console, or is it a toolbox feature (unavailable on Macs)?

    Regards,

    Dan

  16. sh_onenter_thievesguild is the script that runs on entering the thieves guild. It is supposed to handle making the shadowmaster show up at back at the guildhall, and start the conversation when you come back with him from Wheel Ward.

    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3879894/for_dan.7z
put these in your campaign/override, enter the thieves guild where he would be. and use the console to run the script sh_onenter_thievesguild1 (note th 1 at the end)

This script makes the shadowmaster show up (he's script hidden), and start a conversation with you. It doesn't have any conditionals in it.

  17. As far as the journal for the Knights, at this point you've seen the conversation end so I'm not going to follow it up.

The concluding journal entry would say:

"You stole a holy symbol of Fraz-Urb'luu from Father Ventloch, the priest of Ilmater. When you confronted him about it, he attacked. The knights staying at the temple aided you."

  18. Hi, Kamal,

Thanks for letting me know the journal entry resolution--not knowing was nagging at me. The conversation resolution is the important piece and that works successfully now.

As for the Shadowmaster script, I entered it at the guild house and while the console reports that it ran successfully on object unfortunately no Shadowmaster appeared. His Hide skill must be phenomenal;-)

I really appreciate your willingness to track these issues down so far. If it's not worth the effort for one person, I completely understand, and this can just be one of those modules (like White Plume Mountain or Conan Chronicles) that for possibly Mac-related issues (maybe?) I couldn't complete. I think Crimmor really pushed the extremes of what the engine allowed, and the parts of it I could complete were wonderful and special.

If you have ideas to fix the remaining issue, I'll happily resume playing the module, but if not, I think I will take a break from it until or if you publish a new version. Then I will start all over with a fresh install and new character, and keep my fingers crossed that all of the quests will be doable by then. Or perhaps I'll be more interested in playing Bedine, instead;-)

Thank you again for all of your time and effort.

    Regards,

    Dan

  20. Hi, again,
I tried, and was able to enter the Enclave from the roof, but the imps and/or homunculus seem to spot and target me, despite a reasonably high hide skill, and everyone goes hostile in the Enclave. On an earlier quest when I was in the Enclave, I stole everything that wasn't nailed down, and explored everywhere except the room behind the "Target" troll. During that time I was confronted by a mage after taking items from a corpse, and in a difficult fight killed him (he had a great robe!). Did these earlier misadventures mess things up? I had removed colored vials from a room, then as well, and couldn't figure out what to do with them, so they are stored back in my safe house. Are there items I am supposed to have to trigger events? I've snuck through the (hostile) Enclave and can't find anything else to interact with. Is it still possible to make progress from this state?

    Regards,

    Dan
